On October 25, 2015, 26 fallen heroes ran the 40th Annual Marine Corps Marathon.

These 26 served in every branch. They were both new and seasoned. They were all ready and willing.

These 26 were sons and daughters. They were brothers and sisters, husbands and wives, mothers and fathers themselves. They were aunts and uncles, cousins and friends.

And they were warriors, each and every one.

These 26 fallen heroes took their turn, battling through the miles of that marathon. Joined together under a common cause, and in the end, crossing that finish line together.

Because just as in life, they knew and believed that together we’re stronger.

They knew they stood upon the shoulders of our past, carrying America into a future with a foundation of freedom worth fighting for.

They knew that our rights and privileges are also our responsibility.

In so believing, each of those 26 raised their hand and said, “Yes, I will defend.”

Now it’s our turn to raise our hands and say, “We will never forget. We will always remember. We will carry you with us, honor your service, and live by your example.”

Because no matter our political, religious or social bent, our service members cleared the path for us to have it, and that’s a place we can stand together.

26 fallen heroes crossed the finish line that day, carrying the runner who thought she’d carry them.

Who’s the Hero in your own life?

The one you’ll honor and remember, always?

The one who carries you through the toughest days, inspires you, and always believes in you?

We hope you’ll create a HERO tag in their honor, and Log a Hero Mile of your own.

Dedicate the effort — to those who have given you the vision and inspiration to reach your own finish line well.
